Mr. DeMaster will act as the chief executive officer of the school and will report directly to the Summit Board of Trustees. To assure a smooth transition Sue Taylor, our interim Head of School, will work with Mr. DeMaster through this process. We thank God for these two outstanding Christian leaders. Our Summit family is looking forward to serving with John and feels blessed that God brought such an accomplished man to our excellent preschool, elementary, and growing middle school programs.

Mr. DeMaster brings a wealth of experience from a broad range of Christian schools. We look forward to his leadership as SCS continues to excel in its mission of providing a high quality education that effectively integrates Biblical truths in all areas of life.

Mr. DeMaster is a veteran administrator, with over 33 years of experience in Christian schools. He earned his BA in Education (1971) from Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA, and after a term of military service, his MA in Elementary School Administration (1984) from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN. His background includes extensive study in the areas of Mathematics and Chemistry.

As an Administrator, DeMaster served as Principal of Christian Heritage School in Cedar Falls, IA (1975-1978); as Principal of Community Christian School, Minneapolis, MN (1978-1984); as Principal of Randolph Christian School, Randolph, WI (1984-1993); as Headmaster at Twin Oaks Christian School, St. Louis, MO (1993-2007); and most recently as Head of School at Rochester Christian School, Rochester N.Y. During his tenure at Randolph, Twin Oaks, and Rochester schools, he oversaw their application and acceptance as accredited institutions by Christian Schools International. These accredited schools, like Summit, are known for their integration of Christian values and academic rigor. In addition to his administrative responsibilities, DeMaster is a credentialed teacher with certification and experience in the upper elementary levels.

John will relocate to the Fort Myers area with his wife Ruth Ann. The DeMasters are blessed with four grown children.

Thank you to the search team, Chair Ruth Ann Skaggs, Betsy Sinke, Jack Hathaway, Jackie Muse, and Sue Kamerer, for the hours dedicated to this search and the diligent commitment to achieving the best for Summit.

Rebecca Mann, a fourth grader at Summit Christian School in Fort Myers, beat out over 9,000 entrants to take first place in the southeast division.

Bic challenged students to pen a 100 word essay explaining what super power they would like to have and why. Rebecca wished for the power to transform landfills and garbage into healthy food, and polluted rivers into clean drinking water. She explained how her super power would help the Haitian earthquake survivors as well as others around the globe. Just for fun, she would also create some ice cream mountains and rivers of chocolate syrup!

Rebecca will receive an award of $500 plus $100 for her classroom.
